I think it is always important to have proper management in the art room as this Is how students will get the most out of their art lessons while also staying safe and respecting the space/materials provided to them. It is also important to remember that instruction and management can differ based on the needs of the students, so one must read all IEP’s and other documentation, as well as get to know his/her students. When a teacher understands the students and boundaries are set early on, then more freedom can actually be given to the students. The teacher can easily communicate with parents, other teachers, and students. This allows for more choice and exploration, as it establishes trust and common ground. The room should also be set up for this, making it easy for students to access materials as well as put them away and clean up after themselves. A classroom should be able to create a nice workflow among the students, and this will create community and encourage ownership of work. Having clear expectations and boundaries, knowing your students, and setting up the room properly can work together to create a very successful art experience. Some strategies that I find useful are:
-relationship building -setting boundaries early -communicating clear consequences -consistency and routine
